Day2 15Feb25 - Sledding our way to Virginia

We had a short night at the Binghamton Cracker Barrel and were on the road for Virginia at about 08:30. It was a brisk 19F but the roads were clear, all was looking good.

We were also getting to know our new chassis radio that I installed a few months ago. It is definitely better than our old factory unit and has a very nice display. It links very nicely with my phone and has a beautiful 10" display.  It is a Kenwood Excelon Reference DMX1057XR, so far we really like it.

BTW, the podcast on the screen is worth listening too.

By 11:30 we made it through the mountains of PA, but it had started to snow. The roads had been treated with salt/brine but it was snowing so hard it was still accumulating on the roads.  By the time we reached Gettysburg the roads were getting slippery, but that did not seem to slow down the crazy (northern) southern drivers.

For the next 100 miles we saw so many cars off the road we stopped counting, but we really had no problems.

I tried to get my camera man (June) to take pictures of a few of the wrecks but all we have are trees....hmm.

We stopped for lunch and fuel in Gettysburg, I forgot that my PA friend, Doug, once told me "never buy your fuel in PA", at $4.20/gallon he is right. We crossed into Maryland and it was $3.70, doh!

We eventually drove out of the snow into steady rain and temps in the mid 30's, good for washing the salt off the Serenity Falcon and the scooter.

We arrived at Bob and Maribeth's in Fairfax, VA about 15:30, it was raining and 34F.

Since the weather forecast is for temps no lower than the high 20's for the next few days, I de-winterized and filled our water tank. We are settled in and civilized now with all the comforts of home.

We had a nice afternoon catching up with the Malloys and Maribeth fixed us a delicious dinner.

Tomorrow we plan to visit the International Spy Museum in DC.  It is one of the very few museums Bob had not visited.

  1. The nasty weather started in PA, but we made it to Bob and Maribeth’s before dinner time. Delicious dinner and relaxing evening. Early to bed…
